Moreton Bay Fig - is it too late to train? - Bonsai Nut
This Moreton bay fig i bought as pre-bonsai nearly 40 years ago from a bonsai nursery in Jandakot, Western Australia. At the time there was no internet and very little information available so besides repotting and pruning of branches every 5 years it has never been trained with wires. Recently...

American beech (Fagus grandifolia) collecting and as bonsai
I am considering trying to collect an American beech this spring to work on. They are one of my favorite trees and are readily available. It should be much quicker than trying to grow from seed. I would like to know if others have had success collecting and training American beech and are...

Do any of you keep your trees in 100% pumice? - Bonsai Nut
Over the years I've learned to adjust it and usually consists of APL for bonsai containers... and more organic components for growing material in nursery cans, but I am always experimenting and curious about your results with 100% pumice.

Why not Eastern Red Cedar - Bonsai Nut
I am brand new to bonsai so I have been mainly studying as opposed to actually working on trees. I only have 2 Junipers I am working on so far. In my studies I find very few people using Eastern Red Cedar as bonsai material. I was wondering why this is since it is almost impossible to look...

Balsam Firs as bonsai? | Bonsai Nut
Long time bonsai mentor and teacher . He has a YouTube channel . I have heard him talk about somewhere there is great genetic balsam fir to collect . It’s been a long time . But I believe it’s in Wisconsin . Might be Michigan but pretty sure it’s Wisconsin . What makes them interesting is small compact foliage and interesting trunks .

BJ's Bonsai in Potomac. VA,MD, WVA
My name is Sungho Chung and I have recently heard from a potential bonsai customer that BJ's Bonsai Nursery has been talked about disparagingly in local internet forums. I am literally shocked. This is actually my dad's nursery at his home in Potomac, Md. I just post for him since he is not computer literate. He has been doing bonsai most of ...

Tiger Bark Ficus and dormancy or winter time - Bonsai Nut
Part of bonsai is getting to know your trees and how they respond. I repot my ficus trees during warmer months, usually June or July, as temps are reliably in the 80s. At that time they are outside in full sun for part of the day, and growing like mad. If your trees are growing really well, and your grow tent is warm, maybe just go for it.

Starting a Red and Black Mangrove Bonsai/Reef Thing.
So I figured I combine Bonsai/mangrove and reef keeping all into one. The main focus will be the mangroves and the reef second. I plan on having a mud flat thing for the black mangroves and a reef area for the red mangroves - They will be grown completely by Kessil Tuna sun LED's (no blue or purple light for me lol).
