BJ's Bonsai in Potomac. VA,MD, WVA
My name is Sungho Chung and I have recently heard from a potential bonsai customer that BJ's Bonsai Nursery has been talked about disparagingly in local internet forums. I am literally shocked. This is actually my dad's nursery at his home in Potomac, Md. I just post for him since he is not computer literate. He has been doing bonsai most of ...

Rooting Whole Japanese Maple Branches | Bonsai Nut
After reading @Roadrunner 's post in the Aeroponic Propagation of JMs thread where he shared Mark Moreland's approach to create shohin trees by rooting whole sections of trees, I decided to try my hand. I didn't have all the right pieces available so I made do with what I had and seem to have been successful. I tried it on the old apex of a Japanese Maple that I had to cut off anyways to make ...

American beech (Fagus grandifolia) collecting and as bonsai
I am considering trying to collect an American beech this spring to work on. They are one of my favorite trees and are readily available. It should be much quicker than trying to grow from seed. I would like to know if others have had success collecting and training American beech and are...

Starting a Red and Black Mangrove Bonsai/Reef Thing.
So I figured I combine Bonsai/mangrove and reef keeping all into one. The main focus will be the mangroves and the reef second. I plan on having a mud flat thing for the black mangroves and a reef area for the red mangroves - They will be grown completely by Kessil Tuna sun LED's (no blue or purple light for me lol).

Pacific Northwest Bonsai Practitioners | Bonsai Nut
New to Bonsai Nut. Hey - fellow Nanaimo member here! Welcome to the forum! As far as clubs go, both the Victoria (Vancouver Island Bonsai Society) and the Campbell River & Area Bonsai clubs are a bit of a drive for us, but there is a little group that I frequent called Mt. Arrowsmith Bonsai Club that meet each month in Nanoose.

American Bonsai Potters
Hello fellow nuts! I've been mulling over an idea for a while now and wanted to pitch it here to see whether the bonsai community would think it worthwhile. With the growing interest in the bonsai hobby here in the US, there's been an equally growing crowd of potters as well. Through my...

Northern Red Oak Advice | Bonsai Nut
I came across this Northern Red Oak in a neighbor's yard, It's between 8 and 10 feet tall, the main trunk is approx. 4 inches in dia. and the second trunk is about 1.5 inches. These are joined as the photo shows and this part is mostly punky and rotten. I'm wondering if... or thinking rather...

Walnut Tree Bonsai
I'm growing black walnut bonsai without wanting to Each fall squirrels like to sequester nuts in my bonsai pots. In addition to the general mess they make digging around in the pots, in the spring I find large walnut seedlings germinating where I don't want them. This year I planted a couple of seedlings in pond baskets just to have them, but in the future I'll probably just move them into my ...
